Worship

Lay Worship Ministries
St. Anne's has many lay people who participate in
our services. These worship ministries are essential in assisting the
clergy to provide well-planned worship for the parish. We welcome
newcomers to participate in this central part of our life in the
community of faith.
Acolytes
Working under the leadership of the clergy and vergers, young people
ages 11 through high school serve in the liturgy. They carry the cross,
torches and banner in the procession, and also hold the gospel book for
the deacon. As they serve in the liturgy, these young people contribute
to the parish in important ways and they learn about the care we bring
to the workshop of God. Older acolytes, who demonstrate particular dedication and skill in
their work, are selected to serve as sacristans, a position of great
responsibility in the liturgy.

Altar Guild
Altar Guild members prepare the Church for all services, caring for
linens, polishing silve and brass, ordering supplies, and taking care
of vestments. Members serve approximately one service per month and
also help with special services at Christmas, Easter, Weddings, etc. Click for the current Altar Guild schedule.

Flower Guild
The Flower Guild is responsible for purchasing and arranging flowers
for the Altar for services and other events. Members of the parish may
donate flowers in memory of, or in thanksgiving for, a family member or
friend. Donors can
sign-up for specifi Sundays by contacting the parish secretary. After
Sunday services, the flowers are delivered (a separate group of people)
to the sick, shut-ins, new parents or those who have had a death in the
family.

Lay Readers - Eucharistic Ministers
Lay readers and Eucharistic ministers assist the clergy during worship
services. Lectors read the lessons and prayers appointed for the day.
Eucharistic ministers are licensed to administer the chalice and to
read lessons and Prayers of the People. In addition, certain Eucharistic ministers are also licensed to
carry the reserved sacrament from Sunday communion services to the
homebound.

Ushers
Walking into a church service can be a bit daunting. Ushers bring grace
to that moment. They provide a welcome, a bulletin to help navigate the
service and directions to available seats. They help
throughout the service by gathering the offering and assisting with the
flow of people during communion. Ushers work in teams, volunteering to
serve approximately once a month, at one of the morning services.
